Hello all

We hope you can join us for some fun times coming up, and to start us off here's a way you can earn Human Hours helping our home base, The Social Justice Center (SJC). SJC gets a nice chunk of money for providing volunteers for Fete de Marquette. And we need more help! Starting today, going through Monday:

To signup, go to this spreadsheet: Fete Volunteer Signup 2022. And here is a map with locations of the different staffing assignments: Fete Event Locations for SJC Volunteers. See bottom of this message for additional explanation and details.

Plus we have an opportunity to staff an outreach table for the Madison MAN Coop at any time during the event - interested? Please reply to let me know!

and there's more...

Other things coming up: We'll soon host an Action Jam where we synthesize the variety of work we've been doing, we're holding Peacebuilding sessions every Monday in person (email if you're interested), Communications meetings Tuesdays at 3 on zoom, Dreamtime on Fridays at 4 on zoom and sometimes at SJC too, and garden days as needed. And you can have an orientation at your leisure or the standard time of Thursdays at 5CST (you need to confirm first) - email info@mutualaidnetwork.org for more info on any of these things.

and now, more info on the Fete opportunity:

We need to have 2-4 people covering 8-10 hours a day from Wednesday 7/13 through Monday 7/18 (all detailed in the spreadsheet) but you can sign up for 1 hour if that’s all you have time for. For those who aren’t familiar, the “gate” shifts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are very low effort: you basically just sit at a station on the perimeter of the festival telling people not to remove drinks from the festival grounds, turning people away who ask if they can drive through and occasionally moving a barricade for vendors to enter/exit the park. You can bring a book or friend, you’re welcome to get food or drinks from the festival and have them at your post, and we’ll have chairs & water for you.

The setup/takedown shifts on Wednesday and Monday are more physically demanding; we’ll be at McPike park putting up tents, unloading equipment, setting out seating etc. Nothing risky or extremely heavy, but some lifting will be required and it’ll be outside in July, so yeah. But they are also pretty fun, and we get to ride in golf carts! So if you have the ability to do these kinds of shifts please sign up for them so that others who want to contribute can sign up for the shifts that are less dependent on physical ability.

And, as far as tabling goes, once we get all the required event shifts covered, y'all can table as MUCH as you like throughout the whole 3 day event. And there are no restrictions this time i.e. feel free to fundraise, sell swag etc. The reason we get a booth at this event is because we supply a team of volunteers for the event, so if we don’t take care of those first…well then we won’t get the donation or a booth. So, if your org would like to table, it’d be great if you and/or your colleagues/comrades/coworkers could sign up for some non-booth shifts as well. By helping with this, you’re helping us fundraise, which we need to do in order to cover our essential expenses, and hopefully, fix issues with the building and increase capacity to serve y’all better. Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you so much, I really, really appreciate your help!

Thanks and hope to see you soon :)

Stephanie
